DON'T RAIN ON MY PARADE

By

Susan VandeWeghe

Tomorrow is our town’s Spring Parade.

A long, long time ago, when my great-grandmother was a little girl, ladies would wear extravagant hats and promenade along Main Street.

Women don’t wear fancy hats anymore. But the town still has the parade.

I love to get dressed up and be part of it.

This morning I woke up to dark skies and drizzle.

Mommy says the parade will probably be canceled.

Here’s what I say to that!

“When it rains on your parade,

seize your blue and white umbrella,

grab your yellow slicker,

and slip on a really cute pair of boots.

Then dance down the street like the sun is shining.”

And that’s just what we did.

Guess what happened?

The sun came out and the day was glorious!
