Come join other like minded writers at the 3rd annual Children's Writers and Illustrators Retreat at The Sassy Goose, in Cedar Mountain, NC.
The purpose of this retreat is to provide time for each writer to work on individual projects. Then during meals, discuss all things writing - from what you are working on to how to get an agent.
Accommodations
You will have a private room with bath in the Lodge, the Cottage or one of the two Cabins plus the run of the Sassy Goose’s beautiful mountain acrage.
Meals -
Friday Dinner thru Sunday Lunch
Each person will host one of the meals during the retreat. This includes the purchase of food, preparation and kitchen cleanup. Feel free to recruit others to help you.
Meals are in the Lodge’s dining room. Plan on eight people for each meal except Saturday when there may be 10. We usually do buffet style service from the Lodge kitchen.
Reconnect With Your Story
Sit and write or collect thoughts on your next story in these Adirondack chairs next to a mountain stream.

The Cost
Unfortunately, this event has been cancelled because of the Coronavirus. We hope to see you in 2021!
What To Bring
-
Your computer! Don’t forget your charger and plug. There is Wi-Fi on the property but no cell service.
-
Paper and pencil/pens
-
Good pair of walking shoes
-
A sweater
-
Comfortable cloths
-
Warm pajamas are a good idea if you are usually cold. Evenings can get chilly up here in the Mountains – even in May
-
Swim suit if you are very brave – the water is still pretty cold in May but the VandeWeghes often start swimming the middle of May.
-
Bear Repellent—just joking but this is the country so anything goes. I often see deer; turkeys and an occasional mother bear with her cubs in addition to the norm – bunnies, frogs and squirrels. An occasional field mouse can sneak into the houses.
-
We are 12 miles from Brevard. So, although it is possible to run to the store, it’s smart to make sure you have everything you need before you leave home.
Things You Should Know

The Sassy Goose has great water right out of the tap from our mountain spring fed wells.
-
There is no cell service in Cedar Mountain but there is Wi-Fi. So enjoy the peace and quiet.
-
Fishing is permitted in both the lake and the trout pond—catch and release please.
